States Industries Introduces New York’s LeNoble Lumber as its Newest ApplePly® Distributor

EUGENE, Ore—States Industries has announced an agreement that makes LeNoble Lumber the exclusive distributor of ApplePly® to the New York City metro area.

“We are so pleased that LeNoble has partnered with us to distribute ApplePly hardwood plywood in New York,” said Dan Hitchcock, Director of Distribution Sales for States Industries. “This agreement aligns well with our shared commitment to green principles and providing the highest quality, environmentally friendly building materials.”

ApplePly is States Industries’ preeminent, multi-ply, architectural hardwood plywood. ApplePly panels exceed CARB 93120.12 and qualify for LEED IEQ Credit 4.4 for Low Emitting Materials.

Known for its strength and solid hardwood core, ApplePly is widely used in retail fixtures, contemporary furniture and architectural interiors, where its attractive edge is incorporated as a design element. It is also used to make woodworking jigs, drawer sides, puzzles and toys. Because it is virtually void free and constructed from hardwoods, ApplePly machines like solid wood.

Worried about formaldehyde? SoyStrong panels from States Industries provide an environmentally friendly alternative

EUGENE, Ore—SoyStrong products from States Industries offer the assurance that hardwood panels are produced with 100 percent soy-based, formaldehyde-free resins. SoyStrong veneer-core panels test 75 percent lower in formaldehyde emissions than the lowest international formaldehyde standard.

“SoyStrong is a guarantee to our consumers that the products they bring into their home or office meet the highest standards for indoor air quality,” said Mike Taylor, president of States Industries. “States' total commitment to formaldehyde-free resins reflects market demand for superior operational and environmental performance.”

States has been committed to green principles and the environment for nearly 50 years. One of the company’s earliest environmental efforts was converting wood waste as an energy source for its manufacturing process. In 2008, States introduced the industry’s first soy-bonded, no-added-formaldehyde hardwood panels under the Elemental label. To align with the company’s 50th anniversary and recent improvements to the formulation, Elemental is being rebranded as SoyStrong. The new name reflects the company’s commitment to using high-quality, environmentally friendly, soy-based adhesives in all of its panel products.

Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring preservative often found in wood products. Large quantities of formaldehyde have traditionally been a component of glue in many plywood products. However, with SoyStrong, all veneer-core panels from States are free from formaldehyde resins; non-veneer substrates such as particleboard and medium density fiberboard (MDF) with the SoyStrong label have no added urea-formaldehyde. All SoyStrong products exceed California Air Resource Board (CARB) Phase II standards and contribute to the US Green Building Council’s LEED IEQ Credit 4.4: Low Emitting Materials.

Join the Celebration! States Industries Looks Back on 50 Years in the Wood Products Industry

EUGENE, Ore. — States Industries invites you to join the celebration of the hardwood manufacturer’s 50th anniversary. Throughout 2016, States will reflect on its achievements in the panel products industry while also keeping an eye on the horizon.

“We’re taking advantage of this opportunity to celebrate the journey so far,” said Mike Taylor, president of States Industries. “At the same time, we are looking into innovative ways to build for the future.”

When States was founded in 1966, the company focused exclusively on manufacturing wall panels. It wasn’t until 1974 that States started production of industrial hardwood panels and established a full line of hardwood plywood products. States’ constant innovation, focus on custom products and commitment to green principles led to the introduction of NOVA prefinished panels and the creation of the first soy-based, no-added-formaldehyde panels.

Today more than ever, States is committed to world-class manufacturing to meet the demand for consistent, high-quality hardwood panels that incorporate all available environmental attributes. Moving forward, the company will continue to innovate by introducing products and processes designed to improve its customers’ capabilities and product values.

OSHA recognizes States Industries for the completion of their 5-year SHARP program.

Eugene, Oregon - States Industries, a western Oregon producer of hardwood plywood, components and specialty panels was recognized by the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration for the completion of their 5-year participation in the SHARP safety program. The recognition was earned by the States Components Division, one of 3 primary business units that make up the company.

SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) was developed to provide an incentive for Oregon employers to work with their employees to identify and correct safety hazards or potentially unsafe work practices and to also work on continuous improvement programs. The 5-year completion achieves the ultimate goal of SHARP which helps the employer voluntarily take the program and practices forward in a totally self-sufficient manner.

On hand to accept the award were Mike Taylor, States President, Donnie Graves, Components Plant Manager and Ron Burgess, States Environmental Health and Safety Manager. The award, which marks the completion of a 5-year program, is considered a form of graduation.  Representatives from The Oregon OSHA offices explained the background around the program and award. Both Mike Taylor and Donnie Graves echoed how the Components Plant employees enthusiastically embraced the program and were the real champions behind its success, especially Robert Mowrer, States Industries Safety Chair.

EHS Manager, Ron Burgess summed up by saying that “we believe safety is not only a priority at States Industries, but one of our core values.  It won’t be sacrificed for production and we will always perpetuate a plant culture that promotes employee health and an incident rate of zero.”

States Eugene Components plant is a vertically integrated, value-added provider of hardwood panel components for a wide base of customers and commercial business sectors. The plant cuts and fabricates from a range of hardwood plywood panels, much of it UV pre-finished at the adjoining Hardwood Plywood facility. The third and newest business unit operated by States Industries is the Drawer Box Specialties plant in Southern California, acquired by States last year.
