The recognition was earned by the States Components Division, one of 3 primary business units that make up the company.

SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) was developed to provide an incentive for Oregon employers to work with their employees to identify and correct safety hazards or potentially unsafe work practices and to also work on continuous improvement programs. The 5-year completion achieves the ultimate goal of SHARP which helps the employer voluntarily take the program and practices forward in a totally self-sufficient manner.

On hand to accept the award were Mike Taylor, States President, Donnie Graves, Components Plant Manager and Ron Burgess, States Environmental Health and Safety Manager. The award, which marks the completion of a 5-year program, is considered a form of graduation.  Representatives from The Oregon OSHA offices explained the background around the program and award. Both Mike Taylor and Donnie Graves echoed how the Components Plant employees enthusiastically embraced the program and were the real champions behind its success, especially Robert Mowrer, States Industries Safety Chair.

EHS Manager, Ron Burgess summed up by saying that “we believe safety is not only a priority at States Industries, but one of our core values.  It won’t be sacrificed for production and we will always perpetuate a plant culture that promotes employee health and an incident rate of zero.”

States Eugene Components plant is a vertically integrated, value-added provider of hardwood panel components for a wide base of customers and commercial business sectors. The plant cuts and fabricates from a range of hardwood plywood panels, much of it UV pre-finished at the adjoining Hardwood Plywood facility. The third and newest business unit operated by States Industries is the Drawer Box Specialties plant in Southern California, acquired by States last year.
