The Engineering/QA Manager is responsible to manage Engineering and Quality staff in support Panel Plant and Components operations.

Reporting to the Vice President - Technology, the position will directly participate in, as well as direct, Process and Plant Engineering, Quality Assurance, Product Development and Testing, Claims and Complaints dispositioning, Process and Product Improvement, and Waste Reduction activities. 

The Engineering/QA Manager will work closely with Plant Managers, Operations Personnel, Maintenance, Procurement, Sales and Support staff to effectively support Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Procurement personnel in the meeting of Process and Quality requirements to assure Customer Satisfaction and Minimization of Waste. This position will take the leadership role in defining QA requirements, identifying Improvement Opportunities, elimination of Waste and Falldown, and Managing Personnel to achieve desired outcomes.

The successful candidate will be an experienced hands-on Engineer (preferably Manufacturing, Industrial, Process, Mechanical, etc.) with a firm understanding of Quality Assurance tools and methodologies.  He/she will also possess advanced knowledge of Statistical Process Control, Lean Manufacturing concepts and tools, and a desire to focus on Quality improvement. Must be competent with standard software tools, data analysis, budgeting and cost-benefit analysis.  Must be a personable team player with the ability to work with and across all functional boundaries.  We are looking for a person who believes in growth through teamwork, Lean thinking, customer focus, continuous improvement, and a strong will to win. 


  • Hands-on plant and process engineering, with ability to provide innovative solutions to problems and improvement opportunities.
  • Effectively manage priorities and provide guidance to Engineering and Quality staff.
  • Create and drive an absolute focus on Customer Satisfaction via Customer Claims and Complaints resolution, Cause & Corrective Action activities, and Customer Satisfaction metrics to the organization.
  • Provide, promote and implement a vision for an improved Quality Assurance and Process Improvement program.
  • Work with Plant Managers, Operations staff, Production Teams, Maintenance and other staff to identify and implement Falldown Reduction, Waste Reduction and Process Improvement efforts.
  • Lead and support Capital Improvement projects, including equipment design and specification, cost/benefit analysis, implementation and training.
  • Become a leader in the organization with data mining and reporting, statistical analysis, problem solving, and continuous improvement activities.  
  • Become an expert and leader in Product Engineering.
  • Develop expertise in States soy-based adhesive technology.
  • Responsible for Product Performance Compliance, including CARB and EPA Formaldehyde standard and ANSI/HPVA HP-1 panel performance requirements.
  • Rapidly gain expertise with new ERP system.  Work on targeted system improvements to create better information flow to/from the manufacturing shop floor.
  • Develop Material Specifications and Incoming Inspection and Testing requirements and processes.
  • Develop, manage, support and/or maintain effective operating procedures and guidelines to support process standardization and training.
  • Develop and manage department budget.

The Director of Procurement is responsible for all purchasing functions within the organization as well as all raw material warehousing and grading operations. Primary responsibilities involve leading an organization of 12-15 people in a team based environment to support organizational objectives which primarily include inventory accuracy, availability, and cost.


  • Manage strategic vendor partnerships across a variety of categories through subordinate buyer personnel.
  • Maintain stock raw materials through supermarket system. Including periodically updating settings to account for changing replenishment lead times and dynamic customer demand.
  • Manage and maintain compliance with third party certifications including among others FSC and SFI.
  • Ensure that all purchasing practices are compliant with the Lacey act and all other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Efficiently administer sourcing of non-stock materials within the company’s capable to promise framework.
  • Establish and maintain vendor scorecards within key categories to objectively compare vendors within the category.
  • Work with Sales and Accounting to set and oversee standard material costs to best achieve overall margin goals for the organization.


  • Must be a steward of inherited systems and processes, but also able to develop infrastructure to support department functionality.
  • Strong attention to detail with an insatiable need to complete projects and make forward progress.
  • Must be able to find the balance between long term strategic partnerships and short term transactional outcomes.

  • College degree in technical or business discipline required
  • 5 years of management experience in the wood products industry.
  • Significant experience within an advanced ERP environment required. Experience with Microsoft Dynamix preferred.
  • A record of success in a manufacturing and progressively responsible manufacturing management experiences, including responsibility for budgeting, personnel, and overall department operations within a complex manufacturing environment.
